Our Grand Transformation
This year our cherished landmark will celebrate it's 90th anniversary, marking a new chapter in our hotel's history.
Since 1929, Fairmont Royal York has welcomed millions of travelers from around the globe, lit up the silver screen as the most filmed location in Toronto and played host to the city’s most unforgettable moments. Now, the world-famous hotel will mark its next historic chapter with a majestic transformation, honoring the icon’s timeless grandeur while elevating it into a new era of luxury.
Lobby & Arrival Experience
The concept behind the lobby and arrival experience is inspired by a journey from Toronto’s past through its present. The design embraces and preserves the building’s grand character and heritage, while creating a contemporary, modern escape that feels timeless. Given the hotel’s connection to the railway and Toronto’s Union Station, material, form and detail cues were inspired by the aesthetics of train cars and railroads. Rockwell Group created what will be a true ‘living room’ for the city, with a larger, more generous reception area lined with marble stairs and a sweeping ramp that guides guests to check-in stations inspired by train ticketing counters.
Food & Beverage
At the heart of the hotel’s metamorphosis will be an elevated food and beverage experience, as Fairmont Royal York prepares to debut four new signature dining concepts. Responsible for redefining the iconic hotel’s cuisine is renowned Fairmont executive chef, jW Foster. Chef jW brings to the hotel a wealth of knowledge and expertise from more than 15 years’ as a seasoned chef at Fairmont properties around the globe. He plans to honour the brand’s commitment to sustainable food by implementing a new program that works closely with Ontario farmers to provide authentically local ingredients in each new menu.
Fairmont Royal York’s new Fairmont Gold offering is inspired by the hotel’s celebrated history of luxurious accommodation and the personalized, premium services sought after by today’s elite travelers. Curated by Champalimaud, a leading global tastemaker in hospitality interiors, the redefined Fairmont Gold encapsulates the building’s timelessness and speaks to the energy of the city. Now accepting reservations, the offering features larger, elegantly appointed suites and a spectacular new Fairmont Gold Residents Lounge on the 18th floor, providing distinguished guests privacy and relaxation in the epitome of penthouse surroundings. With service directed by internationally recognized and highly trained concierge experts – members of “Les Clefs d’Or” society – the new Fairmont Gold is upscale living at its finest.
Fairmont Royal York’s crowning moment in its grand transformation will be the unveiling of two new Legacy Suites. Incorporating downtown Toronto’s cosmopolitan grandeur with sophisticated, residential-style living, the hotel transforms its two most notable signature suites into the city’s defining luxury experience. Capturing the charm of the metropolitan lifestyle with an added allure of personalized service, the suites are designed for illustrious travellers looking for the ultimate in indulgent hotel accommodation. Set to debut this summer, these definitive spaces will welcome discerning guests to the future of residential-style urban retreats.
Meeting & Events
The hotel’s world-renowned meeting, event and wedding spaces will also receive a revamp to reflect a more modern style and highlight the property’s exquisite historical features. The Convention Floor ballroom spaces accommodate up to 3,000 people and have been host to some of Toronto’s grandest gatherings. From dream weddings to prestigious events, the Fairmont Royal York meeting and event spaces cater to high calibre celebrations, including the internationally-recognized Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) and the gala reception for Canada’s Walk of Fame.
